Privacy Policy

This policy explains what ModelRailCalc collects when you visit, and what it does not. The short version: we collect anonymous usage analytics, we collect your email address only if you deliberately type it into a form, and we do not sell anything about you to anybody.

What we collect

Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and which are not. It records things like the pages you visit, roughly where in the world you are, what kind of device you are on, and which site sent you here. We also record when an outbound product link is clicked, so we can tell which pages actually help people decide. This is aggregate and anonymous: we cannot identify you from it.

Email addresses you give us. If you submit the sign-up form to receive the layout builds, your email address is recorded through Google Forms. If you use the contact or partner form, your message is emailed to us through FormSubmit. In both cases you typed it in deliberately, and we only use it for the purpose you gave it for.

The calculators collect nothing. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The dimensions of your room, your equipment and your layout are never transmitted anywhere and we never see them.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
• We do not require an account, and there is nothing to log into.
• We do not ask for payment details, because nothing is sold directly on this site.
• We do not email you unless you asked us to, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. You can block or delete these in your browser settings, or use a browser extension that blocks analytics entirely, and the site will work normally. Amazon may set cookies when you follow a product link, which is how an affiliate referral is attributed; that is governed by Amazon's own privacy notice rather than ours.

Third parties

The services that may receive data as a result of your visit are Google Analytics (usage analytics), Google Forms (the email sign-up), FormSubmit (the contact and partner forms), Amazon (when you follow a product link), and our hosting provider, which keeps standard server logs. Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with that data.

Your choices

You can browse this entire site, including every calculator, without giving us anything. If you have joined the email list and want off it, use the unsubscribe link in any email or ask us and we will remove you. If you want to know what we hold about you, or want it deleted, ask and we will do it.

Children

This site is aimed at adults planning model railroads. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted their details here, contact us and we will delete them.

Changes

If this policy changes in any way that matters, the updated version will appear here with a new date at the top of the page.
